Daraja Project – Train to Sustain

November 18, 2016

Daraja Project - Sustainable IT

We are working closely with the Daraja Foundation.

We are training the trainers, who in turn will train young adults as students in IT skills.  This is an on-the-job training which goes hand-in-hand with a formal higher education ICT curriculum.

Challenge

To identify leaders within the Daraja Foundation who would benefit greatly from Digital Marketing training, IT skills, Business leadership skills, who in turn would employ, or train others up using these skills.

Solution

We started by mentoring a few of the young people within the project. By forming a relationship with them we were able to determine those that would most benefit from Digital Marketing training and who learnt quickly and implemented their creative ideas using the new skills they learnt.

Young Zanzibar Business Leaders Training

10 - IT Skills
23 - Business Skills
37 - Digital Marketing Skills
17 - Accounting Skills

Results

We started with teaching IT skills used in business; Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, basic accounting concepts, and basic marketing strategies like asset accounting, tax laws and investment accounting.

Then we helped them think through a Social Media Marketing plan and strategy for a variety of businesses. Followed by website design, website development and Digital Marketing strategy for growing a business from startup to medium size.

This is an ongoing project and we are excited to see the growing results of helping a startup business leader walk through the steps of marketing, investment and expansion. These business leaders are the backbone of successful future Zanzibar business.
